Here you can see the new trailer, IMAX compared to normal widescreen theatres. This gives a pretty good idea of what the movie will look like in IMAX. Personally, I think it looks awesome, and I’m definitely seeing it that way. It’s not like Dunkirk or Doctor Strange where only part of the movie is opened up, no, it’s the entire movie!

I have to say, it’s pretty interesting how different the color grading is between the two versions. IMAX seems to be more neutral, for example take a look at the first shot of Black Panther at 1:29. I personally prefer the color grading in the regular version in almost every shot, but the IMAX ratio just looks so good that I’m still going to see it that way. It could be argued that this is a mistake in the IMAX upload, but I doubt it since the color grading differs between shots. Also I don’t think it’s possible to “accidentally” change the colors so significantly. Another theory is that this is to compensate for the light loss in 3D showings, but I don’t think that’s the case either. However, keep in mind that the movie is still in post-production, so there’s a chance they’ll change this. Movies often change their color grading after the trailers.

Also, surprisingly, some shots are actually cropped instead of opened up, like the shots of Thor around 1:23. Or notice how at 1:46, only information is added at the top, which moves the image down and changes the composition.

Sometimes one trailer lags one frame behind the other. This is because the normal trailer Marvel uploaded is in 23.976 fps for some reason, instead of the standard 24 fps IMAX uploaded it in. I’ve had to correct this and because of that sometimes a frame is dropped. It corrects this after a while though.

A lot of people obviously uploaded a comparison like this, but remember: I was the very first one to upload one, and mine is in 4K and has the timing of the two trailers right, unlike some other videos where they aren’t synchronized perfectly. Basically what I’m trying to say is: I’m the best 😉
And yes, I forgot to differentiate between IMAX 2D and 3D in the poll. Unfortunalely I can’t change that unless I delete the poll, but too many people have already voted so I can’t do that.
