The Fast & Furious franchise is officially getting three more films and we’ve got the details right now on Clevver Newsfeed. Today’s episode of News Feed is brought to you by T-Mobile. With double the LTE coverage, you can know it all from almost anywhere. Two decades. Ten films. One saga. That’s the announcement from star Vin Diesel as he took to Instagram to reveal release dates for the presumably last three films in the long running and increasingly successful series. We already know that Fast 8 is set to arrive in theaters on April 14th, 2017, but we now know that we can look forward to two more films arriving every two years after with Fast and Furious 9 set for April 19th, 2019 and a 10th film set for April 2nd, 2021. Diesel has long teased that next year’s 8th installment would be the launch of a brand new trilogy that is set to be directed by Straight Outta Compton’s F. Gary Gray, but this new announcement makes it official. As for the direction of the new trilogy, Diesel previously hinted that the addition of Kurt Russell’s “Mr. Nobody” in Furious 7 would be a catalyst for events that will carry over into the new films. We also know that at least portions of Fast 8 will take place in New York with Cuba, Russia and Iceland expected to factor in as well. It was recently revealed that the upcoming production will feature quote, “the largest explosion ever in Iceland.” Most of the cast is expected to return for the new franchise, including Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. A recent rumor suggested that Paul Walker’s brothers would also be returning, but that was quickly denied by the studio. While Paul Walker’s character “Brian O’Conner” will not appear in the film, Diesel has previously said his presence will still be felt and the new film is meant to honor him. Of course, the fact that the last film made over $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office and still remains the top international movie of the year even over the juggernaut that is The Force Awakens probably also factored into the studio’s decision to make more films. So, who out there is excited for a new Fast & Furious trilogy and where would you like to see them take the franchise? Head down to the comments and tell us what you think and then click here to find out what we want to see happen in Fast 8. I’m Erin Robinson, thanks for watching and we’ll see you soon with more movie news!
